The Flowerdrops is nearly here! With a release date set for 20th March 2020, my first illustrated children’s book in collaboration with artist/illustrator, Aubrey Roemer, will soon be available.
Visit The Flowerdrops book page for more pictures and purchasing information.
The book is set in Brooklyn in late springtime—a moment when a million petals fall from the trees lining the borough’s bustling streets. These flowerdrops blanket the ground like snow, and the storyteller wanders through the silence they create remembering a girl called Harriet who has come and gone in his life.
Around me, all around, ten million flowerdrops fell, and I could have held them all no better than we can hold the past…
It’s a story about the uncommon idea that springtime and youth can be times of loss—an idea beautifully illustrated by Aubrey’s gouache paintings that contain many worlds within worlds. I’ve stared into them fascinated for hours now, and can only imagine eyes younger than mine will feel an even greater pleasure exploring the detail they contain.
Thanks to Aubrey’s captivating artwork, the book will, I hope, be enjoyed by readers of all ages, while the suggested reading age for the text is six and older.
Harriet was always running out through doors, out under the sky, out to where the sun touched her clothes with gold edges. She had a rainbow-colored ribbon too that she wore in her hair. It floated and waved behind her as she ran.
